Smartphone hacking: An rising trend in Technology
THE TREND of hacking into personal conversation over the phone is nothing new as it has became quite famous with the Princess Diana’s phone conversation, when made public. However, this trend is growing all of a sudden and the latest case was that of a reputed media house hacking into the high profile Brithish peoples’ phone.
The ways that News Corp adopted to eavesdrop was quite basic and is known as pretexting. The reporters used to access the voicemails of the targets and used to get quite a lot of information about the same. The illegal method known as pretexting was used by reporters who would call in the customers care and get information by pretending that they were in a position to know the information.
However, with the arrival of the smartphones, hacking cases are growing and more complex methods would soon be used to hack into the systems. According to analysts these phones and complex technology actually gives more leeway to the hackers as they have more entry points available to them.
Two commonly used hacking devices that are tricking users of smartphones are installing poison applications in their phones or clicking to malicious links through their web browsers. The latter method is commonly used as these days the software makers user uses less safeguards against such links.
There are ways that phones are hacked into but the most common way to protect a personal phone is not to download or install suspicious looking applications into a smartphone. Analyst looking into the matter asks people to be cautious and also says, “We urge people, just like you would on a computer: Be wary of addresses or communications with which you’re not familiar.”
